The Man and the Map

Attended the launch of Alex Skovron’s fourth book of poetry, ‘The Man and The Map’, published by Five Islands Press and launched by Jan Owen. She spoke intelligently and passionately about the book, and read a wonderful poem, part 1 of the prize-winning ‘The Violin Maker, The Forest and the Clock’ from the book. Alex also read some poems and mentioned the cut to Five Islands funding that I’ve referred to earlier in the week.

Caught up with a few friends: Philip Salom and partner Meredith, John Leonard and Tony Lintemans among others. It was a great turnout; he is a much liked Melbourne poet, and as more than one person said to me today, ‘a genuinely nice guy’.
