Just about the only time poetry hits the mainstream press is when there’s a controversy; like this one on the ABC site oover John Kinsella’s new book of memoirs I blogged about a while ago:
Drug use, public masturbation, watching pornography and squandering literary grants on prostitutes.
Just another day in the life for Australia’s hard-living poets.
The lurid details are contained in poet John Kinsella’s new autobiography Fast, Loose Beginnings – A Memoir of Intoxications which is currently generating a tsunami of hype in the small world that is the Aus lit. scene.
Kinsella has already taken out apprehended violence orders against two
fellow poets after they sent him a series of emails in protest at their
prominent roles in the scandal-stuffed tome.
Anthony Lawrence and Robert Adamson have now hit back, saying the AVOs are nothing more than a “publicity stunt” by the “self-promoting” Kinsella.
